How Cronyism and Corruption Brought Down Detroit

Many people were outraged when Barrack Obama  the former president said ¨We saved Detroit¨. The reason this outraged so many people was because it was right after GM motors and Chrysler were going bankrupt and the United States government bailed them out. At the time Detroit was the motor company of the world and mass producing millions of cars when they were in their prime. When GM motors and Chrysler were going bankrupt they went to the government to bail them out with a good reason to bail them out. At the time those two companies had over a million employees and going bankrupt would mean that the whole economy around Detroit would collapse.

So if the government did not bail out Chrysler and GM many people in the city Detroit would lose their jobs.  After the government bailed out GM and Chrysler it still messed up Detroit. The companies left Detroit and transferred over seas for cheaper labor and the city of Detroit lost all their jobs. Detroit is now empty and is known as a place were drug users use drugs and leave.

Why Are Teenagers So Brand Conscious?

Teenagers are at an age where they feel like they should fit in with society. Their is a lot of psychology and scientific facts that make you do these choices of choosing brand and certain companies that might make you feel cool. When looking at advertisements it stimulates a part of our brain called the cortex it controls the thought and action part of your brain.

The idea of coolness has changed a lot over time around the 1950s being cool was to be a rebel. The idea of being cool now a days is to have the most popular brands or the newest technology. In the 1980s apple would advertise the competitors as weapons. In a video we saw in class their was two people and the question was if they bought apple phones because it made them look cooler in a sense but the couple disagreed that they have friends who do not have apple products. The film suggests to blame genetics that as a teen you are desperately trying to fit into society.

In the video we saw it was a professor from Duke University he explained the main idea of the pain of spending. He gave an example of how spending money causes pain suppose you were going on a cruise, and you had two payment options one is to pay three months ahead and the other is to pay when you get off the boat. Obviously if you have to pay when you get off the boat you would not enjoy the cruise but you would enjoy it if you payed three months ahead and had no worries to pay when you get off.

Inequality for all

Intro

Recently in my second period class my teacher showed my class a film on inequality and the vast pay gaps in the United States. It was crazy information that the film was giving me. It was like having my eyes opened for the first time on how the wealthy doing certain things can hurt the middle and low class. Such as if every rich person decided to save all of their earnings it would affect the middle and low class.

Question

Something that was going though my mind was that how the government, and banks created the credit card. In the 1950s a man on a single income working from 9-5 could afford to maintain his family. Around the 1970s the whole working women era was booming about women working because the men were at war. The reason the women had to start working was because in the 1970s the man of the house could not afford to maintain his family. In  a result of that men and women started working longer hours and still could barley make it by. This meant that the pay was terrible and in a result of working longer hours you still could not make it by. It was crazy to see how the banks introduced the credit card. They saw that people could not afford to buy anything and that people had no money to spend on entertainment, automobiles, houses and much more so they created an option that gave people money to spend in a way that you borrowed it from the rich and still payed money for using it.

Another thing that kept bothering me was that all the wealthy people on the news kept claiming that cutting taxes would lead to job creation. They kept calling themselves job creators. However Nick Hanauer a man who has seen both sides of the financial side, he grew up in middle class and is now wealthy and owns his own pillow factory says that when you cut the taxes they do not  hire more that the rich people just take their money offshore to where they can get the most interest. Another interesting claim he made was that when wealthy people spend more money the economy runs smoother

Reflecting On Our Experience

How It Started

At the beginning of this project our whole class had a task to do. There was posters for each group of people we were going to present to, about a health topic we should educate that age group on. The age group that Froilan and I choose was children in elementary school. We felt that kids should be educated at a young age about the importance of exercise, choosing the right foods & drinks, and just being healthy in general.

My Interest

I like how the teachers put together this interesting project that gives us a chance to use what we learned and transpire it to the real world, as to when we learn a ton of information and it never leaves laptops. A big reason I took interest in this project was because of the reason of all the rising percentages in obese children with over 1 in 3 kids being obese in the United States. What I learned throughout this experience is that many immense companies have took a stand to help promote for kids to be active and are really paying attention to this matter. The NFL has started a campaign Play 60 to encourage a healthier lifestyle and for kids to go outside and play for 60 minutes a day. They wanted to start a campaign to tackle childhood obesity and promote “The movement for an active generation”. Other big companies such as the NBA has started a campaign called NBA cares. This program promotes education, family development, health and wellness. I think the main reason these corporations are starting these movements is because it is really alarming the way kids are living a unhealthy lifestyle. I think it is great that all these companies care and are taking a stand against this pandemic to improve the quality of life for these children. That is the reason I choose this topic also.

Banking 101

When we were given the opportunity to speak on the phone with a banker, with Eric Campbell to ask him questions about banking me and my group came up with questions you might wonder about. The first question we had for Eric was that if the bank uses our money while it sits in our accounts and why the amount on our account does not change if they do what types of accounts do they choose?  He said that the banks do use our money while it sits in our accounts tangibly. He said that the banks use our money in other investments and use that money to keep themselves alive.

Overall this activity and listening to the radio podcast was a huge learning experience. My questions about the FDIC and how much money they protect was really interesting. Talking to a trust worthy banker and knowing he was not going to hide things away from me was a huge piece of mind.  My follow up questions are if a check is written and payed out at a check cash house and paid out instantly with out verification what was to happen. I did further research and found out more answers to my question http://www.popsugar.com/career/Banking-Tips-20-Somethings-19936527 this website talks about how the check cashing houses run a huge risk on these checks getting cashed without enough funds.

Final Semester Checklist

Wellness Blog # 1

This first blog was about occupational wellness. It is basically an idea that your career affects everything around you like your physical well being, how you think mentally, and a lot more. If you have a job you do not like and it soaks up all your time you will start to affect you in a negative way however if you have a career you like you can be affected in a positive way. I learned that your career choice affects you in every way you can think of.  Wellness Blog #1   / Image Link

Wellness Blog # 2 The second wellness blog was about physical wellness . This blog post was really important to me because many people have lack of physical wellness. This can lead to other things falling apart due to lack of exercise. One thing I learned from these blog post was that you need a well rounded balanced life. I gained insights of myself that I should be more involved in more aspects of my life and be more balanced.  Wellness Blog #2Image Link

Blog Post of Choice

I choose to write about this movie because it talks about injustices in the world of people with power vs no power such as police officers and civilians. In this movie the main character thinks he is above the law because he is a police officer . We have seen many of that today were people believe that they are above the aw and believe they can get away with anything. I liked these kind of blog posts that you can pick your topics and choose what to write about. Image LinkBlog Post of Choice

Small Business Blog Post

Froilan and I developed a business that would prevent drunk driving. We learned all the financial aspects of starting a business. We made a business plan, an advertisement for our product, and a elevator pitch. I learned how to articulate a proper elevator pitch in under a minute a elevator pitch is a speech that gets to the point of why investors should invest in you. I studied a lot of successful shark tank pitches and tried to make mine like theirs.Small Business/Image LinkImage result for shark tank

Discussion Post

The reason I choose this discussion post was because it appealed to me. The post was about how people take voting for granted we have soldiers stationed in other countries who do anything to vote and how civilians will not get off the couch to vote. However their was another point that people who do not know about the candidates and policies should not vote. I learned that many people in our class had different opinions on this concept. Research On Discrimination

Their are many types of discrimination. I choose to write about age discrimination. I found an article that talks about how age discrimination is alive more than race discrimination,  gender discrimination, and all types of discrimination she talks about how she was rejected of a job because she was too old. She was shocked that they told her that so she did more research into it and discovered more about it.  Research on discrimination

First Semester Reflection

This first semester I have learned many new things. I learned how to start my own business, conduct a business plan and execute it. This semester what I have liked the most are discussion post on important up to date topics such as the Kaepernick scandal. I liked that I could see my classmates  opinions and share my own opinion on those topics. One thing I did not like was the chosen blog post topics of wellness I had other topics I wanted to write about and I was really limited on my choice to speak.

The World of Banking

Some banks have a limited amount of checks you can write and charge you after for each check you use, however some banks are different and do not have limited check writing policy. The world of banking has evolved a lot of what a bank teller does you can now do online or on bank apps that are safe and secure. If you write a check on accident or if it gets stolen you will be charged for it to not be charged by the bank that is alarming due to the bank making money off your mistakes instead of being your bank and not charging it. If  you do not have sufficient funds in your checking account some banks will take the money out of your saving account and pay it from their however some banks will stomp on you and charge you for doing that.

If you know the rules of banking and fully think out what bank accounts you choose you will be fine. However you do have to be very careful of hidden fees and adjustable interest rates on your home mortgage, car loans, and student loans. The banking system is very tricky. If you are concerned about your bank shutting down the FDIC ( Federal deposit insurance company) will ensure you get all your money paid for up to 250,000$.

It is extremely hot in the day and the only time that I like throughout the day is when the sunset goes down the Utah skies are amazing and the temperature is perfect.

Journey to Topaz : Chapter 4

Image resultI am Ken why are these people benefiting from our loses.  We are not in a position to be better because of people around us looking at us like we are criminals. People are buying our stuff for cheap like our homes, refrigerators, and basically anything from our house. These people are sick and taking advantage of us. An action of a few people does not affect that whole group of people.
